Thomas Bahle is lecturer in Sociology at the Chair of Macrosociology since September 2013. His main teaching areas are European societies, welfare states and social policies in comparative perspective.
Since 1981 studies in Sociology and Economics at the University of Mannheim, 1987 diploma in Sociology, 1994 doctoral thesis (title: Familienpolitik in Westeuropa), and 2004 second thesis (Habilitation). 1993-2004 researcher at the MZES in an international project on family policies, assistant professor at the Chair of Sociology 1 (Prof. Peter Flora) at the Mannheim Faculty of Social Sciences, and coordinator of an EU-funded exchange and mobility program for doctoral students and postdocs. Thereafter deputy professorships at the Universities of Karlsruhe, Heidelberg and Mannheim and researcher at the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin für Sozialforschung (WZB), European University Institute (Jean Monnet Fellow) and London School of Economics and Political Science (T.H. Marshall Fellow). 2008-2013 researcher and project director at MZES, projects on minimum income policies in Europe and families at risk in five European countries.
